Second, clarifying that the four siddhāntas give rise to the eighty-four thousand dharma-stores: the names and meanings of the eighty-four thousand dharma-stores are fully set forth in the great text on the three contemplations. Now, as for using the four siddhāntas to give rise to the eighty-four thousand dharma-stores, there are four distinctions: first, the worldly siddhānta gives rise to the eighty-four thousand gates of defilement; second, the individual siddhānta gives rise to the eighty-four thousand samādhis and eighty-four thousand dhāraṇīs; third, the therapeutic siddhānta gives rise to the eighty-four thousand therapeutic gates to cure the eighty-four thousand defilements; fourth, the paramārtha siddhānta gives rise to the eighty-four thousand dharma-doors, also called the eighty-four thousand pāramitā doors. "Gate" means capable of leading through, leading through to the paramārtha siddhānta; "pāramitā" means ultimate, and the paramārtha siddhānta is itself ultimate. Now the term "eighty-four thousand dharma-stores" is broad and encompassing, and so it can contain defilements, samādhis, dhāraṇīs, the various therapeutic gates, pāramitās, and other phenomena to the number of eighty-four thousand; hence they are called "dharma-stores." Therefore the Dazhidulun says, "These four siddhāntas subsume the eighty-four thousand dharma-stores"; the meaning lies in this.
