四、明悉檀起大、小乘論者，《地持論》云「菩薩入『造不顛倒論摩得勒伽為令正法得久住禪』而作論」也。菩薩住是禪定，觀佛去世後，十因緣法所成眾生根緣大小，用四悉檀赴此根緣，作論通經。

Fourth, clarifying that the siddhāntas give rise to the treatises of the Great and Small Vehicles: the Bodhisattvabhūmi says, "The bodhisattva enters the 'dhyāna of composing an unperverted treatise mātṛkā in order to make the true Dharma abide long,' and thereby composes treatises." Abiding in this concentration, the bodhisattva contemplates the greater or lesser capacities and conditions of sentient beings produced by the Dharma of the ten causal conditions after the Buddha's decease, and uses the four siddhāntas to respond to these capacities and conditions, composing treatises to elucidate the sūtras.
