一、修多羅藏者，修多羅，此或言無翻，或言有翻者，亦有多家不同，而多用「法本」為翻，所謂出世言教之本，故云「法本」，即是四《阿含經》也。

First, as for the sūtra collection (*sūtra-piṭaka*): regarding *sūtra*, some say it is untranslatable, while others say it can be translated, with diverse interpretations among many masters; yet most commonly it is translated as "root of dharma" (faben), which means the root of world-transcending spoken teachings, and hence is called "root of dharma"; this refers precisely to the four *Āgamas*.
