4.41

一、明格別教位者，通教明補處淨、無垢、位，往格但與別教十行齊；通教佛果但與十地初歡喜地齊。正義如此，傍論有劣者，無相似中道智伏無明也。

First, clarifying the grading of the stages of the distinctive teaching: the pure, stainless stage of a successor explained in the shared teaching, when graded against it, is only equal to the ten practices of the distinctive teaching; the Buddha fruit of the shared teaching is only equal to the initial ground of joy among the ten grounds. Such is the primary meaning; secondarily speaking, where it is inferior, it lacks the wisdom of resemblance to the Middle Way that subdues ignorance.
