4.80

〈弟子品〉通用別教、圓教，彈訶十大弟子及五百羅漢。用通教彈者，如訶迦旃延，說三藏教拙度五義；用別教斥者，此如訶富樓那穢食置寶器也；用圓教訶者，如彈身子、善吉，云「不起滅定，現諸威儀……不斷癡愛，起於明脫……亦不縛不解」，是用圓教意彈也。

The 'Disciples Chapter' uses both the distinctive and perfect teachings to reprimand the ten major disciples and the five hundred arhats. Using the shared teaching to rebuke is like rebuking Kātyāyana, preaching the five meanings of clumsy crossing of the Tripiṭaka teaching; using the distinctive teaching to censure is like rebuking Pūrṇa for placing filthy food in a precious vessel; using the perfect teaching to reprimand is like rebuking Śāriputra and Subhūti, saying: 'Without rising from the absorption of cessation, displaying all deportments... without severing delusion and desire, giving rise to clarity and liberation... neither bound nor liberated'—this rebukes using the meaning of the perfect teaching.
