2. Clarifying origin and traces in terms of principle and teaching: This sūtra says: 'Turning the wheel of Dharma thrice in the great chiliocosm, that wheel is originally and constantly pure.' Now, what is called the origin of the inconceivable principle is the principle and phenomena of the inconceivable two truths, collectively termed 'principle'; principle is the origin. The traces of the inconceivable teaching refer to the great sage's exposition through the eight voices of the traces of the teaching that can express the inconceivable two truths. The principle of the inconceivable two truths that is expressed is the origin in principle; the teaching that expresses it is the trace in phenomena. Thus, due to the origin in principle, there are traces in teaching; by following the traces in teaching, one finds the origin in principle. Though origin and traces are distinct, inconceivably they are one.
