First, explaining the liberation of true nature: this sūtra says, 'The nature of lust, anger, and delusion is itself liberation.' Now it is explained that 'the nature of lust, anger, and delusion' is what the Śrīmālā Sūtra explains as 'the intrinsically pure mind, undefiled by afflictions.' If afflictions cannot defile it, then birth and death cannot bind it; being intrinsically free of entanglement, it is called liberation. Hence this sūtra says: 'When Upāli attained liberation through the marks of the mind, was there any defilement? The marks of the minds of all sentient beings being without defilement is likewise so.' This is called the inconceivable liberation of true nature.
