6.101

三、明因果成佛國為此經宗者，約此四種因果，以明佛國因果，辨此經宗也。若是有作集、無生集，此二集善惡、五濁輕重，約根利鈍，同感凡聖同居淨穢土，託生受報，為苦諦也。若是生滅、無生二種道滅者，同感方便有餘土託生，即彼土之苦諦也。此之道滅，即是無作之苦集，無量、無作之道滅分成，即得生實報無障閡淨土。若無作智滿，則無作集盡，則無一生之報，智冥心源。此經云「心淨，即佛土淨」也，《仁王經》云「唯佛一人居淨土」，故知四種四諦因果，即是正報。以正報故，說於依報國土也。

Third, explaining that cause and effect constituting the buddha-land serves as the central theme of this sūtra: Based on these four kinds of cause and effect, the cause and effect of the buddha-land is clarified, thereby distinguishing the central theme of this sūtra. In the case of the accumulation with production and the accumulation of unconditioned arising: these two accumulations of good and evil, the lightness or heaviness of the five defilements, based on the sharpness or dullness of faculties, together evoke the pure and defiled lands where ordinary beings and sages dwell together, where they are born to receive retribution, which constitutes the truth of suffering. In the case of the two kinds of path and cessation—arising-and-perishing and unconditioned arising—they together evoke rebirth in the land of expedient means with remainder, which is the truth of suffering of that land. These instances of the path and cessation are themselves the suffering and accumulation of non-production; when the path and cessation of the immeasurable and of non-production are partially accomplished, one is then able to be born in the pure land of real reward without obstruction. If the wisdom of non-production is perfected, the accumulation of non-production is exhausted, and there is no retribution of even a single life; wisdom merges into the mind's source. This sūtra says: "If the mind is pure, the buddha-land is pure"; the Benevolent Kings Sūtra says: "Only the Buddha alone dwells in the pure land." Hence we know that the cause and effect of the four kinds of four truths are the primary retribution. Because of the primary retribution, the dependent retribution of the land is explained.
