Third, in clarifying the indeterminate teaching: this also differs from ancient interpretations, which separately posited a theory of omnipresent indeterminacy. Now, it is simply that within the teachings of the five flavors, people of sharp faculties are diverse, and in every single teaching they are all able to see the buddha-nature; hence there is the meaning of the complete letter. Thus the Nirvāṇa Sūtra says: "It is like someone putting poison into milk, up to ghee, and it can also kill people." This is why the three masters—Emperor Wu of Liang, [Bodhi]ruci, and Sheshan—regarded this sūtra and the Pañcaviṃśatisāhasrikā [Prajñāpāramitā] as having the complete letter, clarifying the buddha-nature and discerning eternity; their intent lay here.
