Seventh, although the Sanlun masters, in explaining liberation, make statements of conventional designation and mysterious subtlety, their central theme knows not where it tends. If, as below, one examines the fixation on 'other-nature' of self and other, it is sequentially impossible to know that what is clarified in the 'Examination of Dharmas' chapter of the Madhyamaka-śāstra is from the purport of the shared teaching; what is clarified in the 'Examination of the Four Truths' chapter contains the purports of the three teachings—shared, distinctive, and perfect; and the final two chapters are the purport of the Tripiṭaka teaching. Clarifying the meaning based on this, there can be the four kinds of liberation of the four teachings. Vasubandhu mostly expounded the distinctive and perfect, while Nāgārjuna mostly expounded the shared and perfect; the points of identity and difference in the liberation expounded by the two masters can be deduced and known.
