The two lines "able to roar the lion's roar" are, secondly, the praise proper of the completion of the work of converting others. The Mahāparinirvāṇa Sūtra says: "Buddha-nature is named the lion's roar samādhi; a bodhisattva abiding in this samādhi is able to roar the lion's roar. The lion's roar is called fearless exposition (and so forth)." In terms of the contemplation of mind: if the threefold contemplation is perfected, one's practice is like what one expounds, expounding the four teachings without timidity in mind, just as a lion cub is able to roar when it reaches three full years. "Fame heard throughout the ten directions": this also is the completion of the work of converting others. Once the work of conversion is prominent, the ten directions receive benefit and together spread it abroad; their renown travels far, like a great general defeating the enemy whose merit and fame cover the world.
