From "The Buddha with a single sound..." down, spanning six lines, the next part praises the secret of speech. The text has three [parts]: first, two lines treat the two analytical knowledges of phrasing and phenomena. "Harmonising with their language" is the analytical knowledge of phrasing; "each attains understanding" is the analytical knowledge of phenomena. Phrasing: sentient beings of all different regions and varying species each have different speech and sounds, and [the Buddha] accords with the sounds of their species; hence it is called the analytical knowledge of phrasing. Phenomena: the names and distinctions of all phenomena are varied and not just one, each having what it designates. One who has attained the analytical knowledge of phenomena understands all spoken conventions and harmonises with their sounds; hence it is called the analytical knowledge of phenomena. The Buddha, with a single sound, varies his application across phrasing and phenomena, and with the two analytical knowledges responds to beings: this is the secret of speech. The Buddha is not even [merely] Brahmā, how much less identical to sentient beings? Causing distinct sounds to be understood is fundamentally neither phrasing nor phenomena, yet manifesting phrasing and phenomena is the power of the secret of speech.
