"In all livelihoods and business, though he gained worldly profit he did not take pleasure in it": satisfying one's intent is "livelihoods," and obtaining profit is "business." His trace was identical to ordinary people seeking worldly gain, but "he did not take pleasure in it" because, leading beings back to the fundamental, he therefore felt no delight. Ordinary people feel delight through minds of attachment, and fettering afflictions cover their four roots of goodness; the Mahāsattva led beings along while having no attachment in his mind, so that beings' clinging minds were broken and their four roots of goodness developed, gathering them into the four lands. Furthermore, the bodhisattva realizes four merits; the three provisional [teachings] are worldly, and cultivating these three dharmas gives rise to samādhi and wisdom, which is called "gaining worldly profit." Preaching this to others is called "livelihoods," the listeners gaining benefit is called "business," and the bodhisattva constantly practicing renunciation is called "not taking pleasure."
