4.112

「時我至其舍」，三、善吉置鉢。自愜不知聖法又非聖人。又我實斷三界惑盡，豈得頓同魔外。進退思惟，俱不能作悲敬取食，迷悶失厝不知何答，便棄鉢而去。

"At that time, I… to his house": Third, Subhūti setting down the bowl. He was self-contented without knowing the noble Dharma, and thus was not a noble person. Moreover, [he thought:] "I have truly severed all delusions of the three realms; how could I suddenly be identical to māras and outsiders?" Reflecting back and forth, he could neither take the food through the field of compassion nor through the field of respect; bewildered and at a loss for how to reply, he abandoned his bowl and left.
