「故我不任詣彼問疾」，四、結辭不堪。彌勒自惟往昔為兜率天說不退轉無益於彼，而為所彈莫知酬答，豈堪傳旨而往問疾，故辭不堪。

“Therefore, I am not competent to go there and inquire after the illness” is fourth: concluding with a statement of inadequacy. Maitreya reflected on how in the past his explaining non-retrogression for the Tuṣita devas brought them no benefit, and being rebuked by [Vimalakīrti] he did not know how to respond; how could he be fit to convey the [Buddha's] command and go to inquire after the illness? Therefore, he declined as incompetent.
