From "He also asked" to "correct mindfulness" is the fourth question and answer. First, he asks, "If one wishes to eliminate afflictions, what practice should one undertake?" This question is asked in order to complete the immeasurable mind of joy. Next, the answer exhorts him that "one should practice correct mindfulness," which refers to the four stations of mindfulness. The four stations of mindfulness directly destroy the eight inversions; when the eight inversions are extinguished, ignorance is extinguished; when ignorance is extinguished, afflictions both within and beyond the triple realm are all extinguished. If one causes sentient beings to practice the four stations of mindfulness, they depart from afflictions and obtain the joy of the truth of the path; eradicating suffering and obtaining joy, they therefore give rise to celebration and joy. This is the third great vow: for those who have not been settled in the truth of the path, causing them to be settled in the truth of the path; it is also called: 'Dharma gates being inexhaustible, I vow to know them.'
