問：八蔽八度如文可解。憍慢對願、諸煩惱對力，其義如何？答：憍慢輕他，若不發願，豈能作橋梁令他履踐。若不轉煩惱，豈能和光不染常清淨也。

Question: The eight hindrances and eight pāramitās are understandable from the text. How do arrogance corresponding to vows and afflictions corresponding to powers work in meaning? Answer: Arrogance looks down upon others; if one does not produce vows, how can one act as a bridge for others to tread upon? If one does not transform afflictions, how can one harmonize one's light, remain untainted, and be constantly pure?
