"Born from the real; born from non-negligence": The Tripiṭaka and shared [teachings] contemplate arising and non-arising and enter the biased true principle; this is called the real. The distinct and perfect [teachings] contemplate the immeasurable and the non-active and enter the Middle Way buddha-nature; this is called the real. If the bodhisattvas of the four teachings contemplate truth to its culmination, they realize the four buddha-fruitions; hence it says "born from the real." As for "born from non-negligence": if the bodhisattvas of the four [teachings] regress when their wisdom-practice of contemplating truth takes phenomena as object, this is called negligence. If they use wisdom-practice to accord with principle, thought-moment following thought-moment in succession without abandoning great compassion, this is called non-negligence. Non-negligence is the mark of [an avaivartika-]bodhisattva. Thought-moment following thought-moment is tranquil and ceases, flowing naturally [into the sea of omniscience]; hence it says "born from non-negligence."
