From "Immediately" onwards is the fourth [part], the monks regaining their original aspiration. The text has two [parts]: first, explaining their regaining their original aspiration; second, paying homage. As for the first passage: through the power of samādhi [Vimalakīrti] empowered the monks, causing them to awaken to the four minds they had cultivated in the past; hence it says "regained their original aspiration." Second, as for the monks paying homage: Pūrṇa had mismatched their capacities, and their hesitation had been of no benefit; now, receiving this empowerment, they immediately knew their past lives, their roots of goodness opened and blossomed, and their debt of gratitude was no small matter, so out of deep gratitude and shame they bowed their heads in homage.
