"He further asked... 'sought within.'" This is the sixth round of question and answer. "He asked: 'Where should the sixty-two views be sought?'" clarifies that these inverted views are fundamentally unreal; relying on what place do they arise, that one may seek these views? Vimalakīrti then answers, "They should be sought within the liberation of the buddhas." Why is this? The liberation of the buddhas is itself the inherently pure mind of the Middle Way, unstained by afflictions, fundamentally neither bound nor liberated; unstained yet stained, it is difficult to comprehend. It is precisely because sentient beings are confused about the liberation of the true nature that they give rise to the sixty-two views, having bondage and liberation. These views do not arise from anywhere else; they arise precisely from being confused about the liberation of the true nature. Now, wishing to seek these confused views, one must seek them within the buddhas' liberation of the true nature; then one knows the source from which the sixty-two views arise, just as wishing to seek ice, one cannot leave water.
