"He further asked... 'sought within.'" This is the seventh round of question and answer. If seeking the sixty-two views is done by seeking them from the buddhas' liberation of the true nature, where then does the liberation of the three virtues on the buddhas' fruition stage come from? Vimalakīrti then answers, "Sought within the mental activities of sentient beings." The text above says, "In accordance with the purity of their minds, the buddha-land is purified." Now, contemplating the mental activities of sentient beings to enter the wisdom of inherent purity and exhausting the source of sentient beings' minds reveals the fruition of the buddhas' liberation. The Avataṃsaka says, "Breaking open a single atom releases sūtra scrolls of a trichiliocosm." Thus the Pratyutpanna Samādhi Sūtra says, "The buddhas attain liberation from the mind; the mind is pure and called stainless; the five destinies are immaculate and do not receive form; one who understands this accomplishes the Great Path." Therefore Vimalakīrti encourages seeking within the mental activities of sentient beings, just as encouraging one to seek water without leaving ice.
