二、「如來」下，說教多少。「故法華」等者，荊溪云：此有二意，一者通證一切開權、二者別證二乘之漸。皆《法華》意，是故引之。若別教意，但是開教不開理也，或亦開理以示圓中。

Second, from 'The Tathāgata...' onward, the extent of the teachings expounded. Regarding 'Therefore the *Lotus Sūtra*...' etc., Jingxi says: This has two meanings: first, broadly verifying that all open the provisional; second, specifically verifying the gradual nature of the two vehicles. Both are the intent of the *Lotus Sūtra*, which is why it is cited. If according to the intent of the separate teaching, it merely opens the teaching without opening the principle; or it may also open the principle to reveal the perfect middle.
