四、釋念處修道，二：初、示過顯益。「若離至世智」，示離念處之過，以念處是出世慧故，無出世慧但在生死。隨禪受生，四禪生色界，四定生無色。「若修」下，顯修念處之益。藏通破界內四倒，別圓破界外四倒。

Fourth, explaining cultivating the path through the foundations of mindfulness, in two: first, showing the faults and revealing the benefits. "If one is separated from... worldly wisdom" shows the fault of departing from the foundations of mindfulness, because the foundations of mindfulness are supramundane wisdom; without supramundane wisdom, one remains only in samsara. One takes birth according to dhyāna: the four dhyānas give birth in the form realm, and the four absorptions give birth in the formless realm. From "If one cultivates" down, it reveals the benefits of cultivating the foundations of mindfulness. The Tripiṭaka and Shared [teachings] destroy the four inversions within the realms, while the Distinct and Perfect [teachings] destroy the four inversions beyond the realms.
