問：〈菩薩品〉末但云諸菩薩，何得云八千耶？答：〈問疾品〉初，經云「即時八千菩薩、五百聲聞皆欲隨從」，則知〈菩薩品〉中命八千人也。

Question: At the end of the "Bodhisattvas" chapter it merely says "the bodhisattvas"; how can one say "eight thousand"? Answer: At the beginning of the "Inquiring about Illness" chapter, the scripture states, "At that time eight thousand bodhisattvas and five hundred śrāvakas all wished to follow"; thus one knows that in the "Bodhisattvas" chapter eight thousand persons were ordered.
