Second, from "One should know" onward, preaching according to capacity. "There are the siddhāntas that respond to capacities" and so forth means: intending to make them rejoice, generate good, break evil, and awaken to the Path, he therefore made statements concerning self and other, purity and defilement, and so forth. Xi means "pervasive." Tan is translated as "giving" (dāna). Universally bestowing these four dharmas upon sentient beings is called the four siddhāntas, detailed as in the Profound Meaning.
