Fourth, bidding the great disciples to eat together, in two parts: first, dividing the sections; second, following with explanations. All are as in the text. The sūtra says 'limited intention': abandoning phenomena to seek principle is called limited intention; lacking compassion and only saving oneself is also called limited intention. The sūtra says 'inexhaustible throughout the eon': because the mind is inexhaustible, the food is also inexhaustible. When the mind-nature is completely revealed, it has this great function, just as a mustard seed containing Mount Sumeru is analogous. The sūtra says 'still not exhausted (ci)': The Fangyan says: 'Xi means exhausted.' The character has three variant forms; ci (賜), si (儩), and si (澌) are all glossed as exhausted. Ancient scriptures write ci (賜); there is no need to alter it arbitrarily.
