初、重分大科。二、「此二」下，總明來意。三、「菩薩」下，別解二品，二：初、淨名掌擎大眾同入庵園歸佛，二：初、釋題。二、「就此」下，解釋，二：初、兩意分經。蓋大師異時分文，故章安具錄之也。二、「初為」下，隨文釋義，二：初、分科，二：初：同下隨釋也。下去經科已在疏文，不煩委錄。「用前七日為方便」者，即小乘七方便也，五停合一，總別念為二，并四善根七也。「四處辨消」者，聖三凡一也。「故云七日乃消」者，荊溪云：用前事解七日之文，為理解中之前方便。「若入發心」者，正指方等起慕大心，為法華入位之方便也。

Third, from "Bodhisattvas" down, explaining the two chapters separately, in two parts: first, Jingming holds the great assembly in his palm and they enter the Āmrapālī Garden together to return to the Buddha, in two: first, explaining the title; second, from "Regarding this" down, explaining, in two: first, dividing the sūtra according to two purposes. Because the Great Master divided the text on different occasions, Zhang'an recorded both in full. Second, from "First, for the sake of" down, explaining the meaning according to the text, in two: first, dividing the outline, in two: first, identical to the subsequent commentary below. The sūtra outline below is already in the commentary's text, so there is no need to record it in detail. Regarding "using the preceding seven days as an expedient": this refers to the seven expedients of the Small Vehicle: the five stops combined into one, the specific and general mindfulness [applications] making two, together with the four wholesome roots, making seven. Regarding "discerning digestion in four places": the holy is three and the ordinary is one. Regarding "hence it says they digest only after seven days": Jingxi says that using the preceding phenomenal explanation of the text's "seven days" constitutes the preliminary expedient within the understanding of principle. Regarding "if one enters into the arousal of the mind": this refers directly to the Fangdeng (Vaipulya) period's arousing admiration for the great mind, serving as the expedient for entering into the ranks of the *Lotus Sūtra*.
