Second, from "The fruit above" down, explaining the meaning according to the text, in two parts: first, clarifying that Buddha-lands differ and the rousing of faculties is each distinct, in two: first, returning to the theme to explain the fruit, clarifying the differences in the Buddha-lands and Buddha-activities, in two: first, directly clarifying the fruit, in three: first, matching with what is above to explain generally, in two: first, adducing what came before to show identity, in two: first, clarifying that the four meanings tally and are identical. Second, from "It truly stems from" down, showing the reason for not following the sequential order. In the text, he first relates the intention; next, from "It is analogous to" onward, he demonstrates it by analogy. Regarding "different names with identical meaning": the three cycles have different names, but their meaning of opening the provisional is identical; this is analogous to the present four sections having distinct names, while their meaning of the Buddha-lands is one. Regarding the "thirty-six questions": this refers to the youth Kāśyapa raising questions at the beginning of the "Chapter on Long Life." In the past, when dividing the questions, divisions and combinations differed, varying among thirty-two, [thirty-]four, [thirty-]six, etc. This refers to questions such as how one attains long life. Regarding "meanings and names mutually corresponding, while names differ": the Buddha answered thirty-six questions with twelve chapters. As for cases where name and meaning mutually correspond, he used the "Chapter on Long Life" to answer the question on how to attain long life, the "Chapter on the Diamond Body" to answer the question on the indestructible diamond body, and so forth. Furthermore, there are cases where one chapter answers multiple questions, which means their names differ. Regarding "If the intended meaning is correct" and so on: one only requires that it accords with the intention of the question, without faulting difference in names. From "Herein" down, concluding by analogy. Correlating the present four sections with the opening of the theme above, although not sequential, they equally reveal the Buddha-lands.
