Sixth, regarding evil retributions among humans. Jingxi says: Regarding "manifesting entering... up to... receiving the four continents" and so forth: the sūtra does not have the name "four"; it should be established from the meaning. Why? If judged by the words "lowly, ugly, and wretched," they are mostly in the southern continent. Aging, illness, wives, and concubines generally apply to the other three; furthermore, the northern continent should not extend to illness. Dullness and slowness can also apply to the four continents; therefore, it can be generally called the four continents. Regarding "The sūtra has no asuras or the six desire [heavens]": the separation and combination of asuras, their presence or absence, can be known. The six desire [heavens] might be omitted by analogy with the above; the sequential text briefly brings out the six desire [heavens]. Severing causes and conditions in terms of the four teachings: the causal stages of the separate and perfect teachings still belong to the various paths, not yet being purely clean; hence severing applies across all of them.
