Second, explaining the next phrase, which has two parts: first, pointing out and indicating. Second, from "worldly people" below, explaining, which has two parts: first, explaining friends. Those of the same master are called companions (peng); those of the same purpose are called friends (you). As for "each attains the fruit of the undefiled path": the shared and Tripiṭaka teachings eliminate view and thought afflictions; the distinct and perfect teachings eliminate ignorance; all are ranks of undefiled states. From "Lotus Sūtra" below, citing evidence of close friends. First the Hinayāna and later the Mahāyāna is like first being distant and later being intimate. Internally concealing the great practice and expediently manifesting as the two vehicles, they are therefore called "two men." Together cultivating the minor practice, it is therefore said "working together." "You" refers to the destitute son, illustrating the real practice. From "if opening" below: the faculties of the real practice being ripe, all awaken to the perfect and eternal; this is the period of the Lotus Sūtra.
