Second, specific praise, in two: first, phenomenal explanation, in two: first, general, in two: first, proper explanation. "Hindrance" (klesha-āvaraṇa) takes covering as its meaning; "entanglement" (paryavasthāna) gets its name from binding. From "Now it is said" below, Jingxi says: The present master further draws a near analogy for what is distant. Only the branches and leaves differ, but their names are inevitably identical. Why is that? Matching the five hindrances to the four parts, the two hindrances of greed and anger are originally identical in name. Sleep is due to delusion, and doubt is due to delusion; therefore, the two hindrances of sleep and doubt are both matched to the share of delusion. Regarding "restlessness is adherence to rules and rituals," because with a mind that adheres to rules and rituals one universally gives rise to the three poisons, it is called restlessness; therefore, the hindrance of restlessness is paired with the equal-share [defilement].
