Second, explaining in turn, in four [parts]: first, specifically clarifying, in two [parts]: first, matching the names. "Three kinds of bodhicitta" refers to the mind directed toward the path of the three vehicles. Second, explaining the meaning, in three [parts]: first, the straightforward mind. Second, the deep mind, in two [parts]: first, correctly clarifying the deep mind. Second, reviewing the preceding to evaluate, in three [parts]: first, clarifying cultivating the great based on the small. Jingxi says: The meaning of this question is that the sūtra states that the straightforward mind and deep mind are the bodhisattva's pure land and so forth; since these two minds are the minds of the two vehicles, why would a bodhisattva practice the minds of the two vehicles? In the answer, although borrowing the Shared teaching, the meaning is still not yet evident; hence it cites the Lotus Sūtra to explain generally. Although practicing the minds of the two vehicles for the sake of gathering living beings, the original goal was the pure land; hence it can cite it to explain.
