Second, from "Tripiṭaka" onward, explains how the Hīnayāna resembles non-Buddhists. Third, from "therefore" onward, reveals the intention behind the reproach. Regarding "whose minds operate outside the principle": the two teachings abandon birth-and-death to seek nirvāṇa, and the distinct teaching abandons the two extremes to seek the middle way; being unable to instantly know their original nature, these are all termed "minds operating outside the principle." From "from this" onward is the speech of self-narration by Kumāra-Kāśyapa in the Nirvāṇa Sūtra. Even the person of the distinct teaching is heterodox; how then could the Tripiṭaka and shared teachings be correct? Because neither of them is the unconditioned perfection and integration. If the shared and distinct teachings are still like this, how could the Tripiṭaka teaching be superior? Rebuking them as equivalent to the six teachers is truly justified.
