三、置鉢而去，二：初、總示。初自伏非敬田也。「又我」下，不伏為悲田也。「進退思惟」者，結上二文。進思非敬、退思非悲，悲敬俱非，從何取食？不如棄鉢出舍而去。

Third, setting down the bowl and departing, in two [parts]: first, general indication. First, he submits within himself that he is not a field of respect. From "Furthermore, I..." onward, he does not accept that he is a field of compassion. Regarding "Reflecting forward and backward": this concludes the above two passages. Reflecting forward, he is not [a field of] respect; reflecting backward, he is not [a field of] compassion. Being neither of compassion nor of respect, where could he receive food? It is better to cast down the bowl, exit the house, and depart.
