三、「世人」下，斥疑引證。「多疑此解」者，疑今作訶殺賊等三義解文，謂無所據。而不知今師深憑《法華》見茲斥意。以《法華》善吉領解，既云我今真阿羅漢，豈非追省往昔小果既不真實致被彈訶？故須以羅漢三義以釋今訶，故去至法華方顯。「故四」下，引證。四大聲聞，善吉居其一也。

Third, from "People of the world..." onward, refuting doubts and citing evidence. Regarding "Many doubt this interpretation": they doubt that the text is interpreted here through the three meanings of reproaching the 'killer of thieves' and so forth, claiming it lacks foundation. But they do not know that the present master relied deeply upon the Lotus Sūtra to perceive this intention of reproach. Since Subhūti expresses his understanding in the Lotus Sūtra, saying 'We are now true arhats,' is this not reflecting back upon the former small fruit as being unreal, which brought about this reproach? Therefore, one must interpret the present reproach through the three meanings of an arhat; hence it becomes apparent only when reaching the Lotus Sūtra. From "Therefore the four..." onward cites evidence. Among the four great śrāvakas, Subhūti is one of them.
