Second, directly commenting, which has two [parts]: first, the four immeasurables, as in the text; second, the dharmas capable of transforming. The four immeasurables are internal; the transformative dharmas are external. Dependent on the four such as spiritual superknowledges, the four immeasurables are then able to benefit beings. The text has four parts: first, spiritual superknowledges. Jingxi says: Revealing the truly pure six faculties of dharmatā: upon entering the initial abode, the six faculties possess ten, because the six faculties are identical to the six superknowledges. Second, liberation. Jingxi says: Then able to emerge, and so forth: eliminating entering the stations of mastery. Regarding "able to emerge from the two vehicles", and so forth: the small emerges from the great, and the great must contain the small; hence now opening them, all are caused to become great. Regarding "because in the cause", and so forth: in the cause one employs the eight liberations of the small vehicle, and later transforms into the great, seeing the principle of the eight liberations, where every stage fully contains Buddha-nature; therefore it is renamed the kingly liberation. Later, using it to benefit beings, one still relies on past habits to establish transformation as appropriate; because after all dharmas have entered into the middle, all are endowed with the inconceivable practice of transforming others; both mind and dharmas are called practice, hence it becomes the superior and wondrous liberation among the twenty-five samādhis. Third, expedients. Jingxi says: Expedients are the place of enlightenment, and so forth: expedients are identical to the real, wherein the place of enlightenment resides. Fourth, the four means of embracing.
