三、釋大品上根疑。荊溪云：問上來等者，此約上來多五味義，並以《涅槃》對於《法華》而為上下，故二乘眾皆至法華而入法界。《法界性論》何以然耶？答：《法界性論》唯約菩薩入一乘機，故云一乘人也。若二乘人，在於法華而為上也。說二乘者，明大小共。

Third, resolving the doubt regarding those of superior faculties in the Pañcaviṃśatisāhasrikā. Jingxi says: As for the question concerning the passage above, etc., this is based on the above meaning of many of the five flavors, consistently setting the Nirvāṇa Sūtra in contrast to the Lotus Sūtra as superior and inferior; hence the members of the two vehicles all reach the Lotus Sūtra and enter the dharmadhātu. Why then is this so in the Ratnagotravibhāga? Answer: The Ratnagotravibhāga is concerned solely with the capacities of bodhisattvas entering the One Vehicle, hence it speaks of "persons of the One Vehicle." As for persons of the two vehicles, they are superior in the Lotus Sūtra. Speaking of the two vehicles clarifies what is shared by the Mahayana and Hinayana.
