Second, according to the three lands. Jingxi says: As for "If based upon," and so forth: saying that ignorance is perpetually undiminished—although this is so at first glance, yet it is also said that when the three vehicles are compared with each other, Mahāyāna and Hīnayāna being distinct, it can also be established conceptually. It is just that that land lacks the delusion of clinging to teachings; therefore, there is no principle of being undiminished. As for "If according to the initial mind, past karma," and so forth: if already born there, there is no more heavy evil; the obscuring past karma is said in reference to this land. A person cultivating the perfect contemplation who has not yet broken ignorance, or who is about to break it and is said to have obstacles, is identical in meaning to that land; hence words are lent to it, there being only diminution-diminution and increase-diminution.
