Third, elucidating through analogy, which has two parts: first, outlining the divisions. Second, explaining in sequence, which has two parts: first, opening the analogy, which has two parts: first, opening the presence of illness. Regarding "generating great compassion and abiding in the single-child stage": because the four immeasurable minds reach fruition and abide in the two stages, with benevolence, compassion, and sympathetic joy perfected, one abides in the single-child stage. Cherishing sentient beings like an only child, equanimity is perfected, and one abides in the stage of empty equality. Subject and object are both empty and one seeks no repayment of kindness; thus these two stages are horizontally complete at every stage. Now, regarding the manifested illness, it is spoken of specifically from the perspective of compassion; the words are concise but the meaning is comprehensive, complete with the four immeasurables. Regarding "equally possessing the principle of nature": although the ten realms are distinct, the one nature is without difference; hence it is named the single child. Second, opening the curing of the illness. The child represents real illness; the parents represent provisional illness. Second, joining the analogy, as in the text.
