Second, from "Now we clarify..." onward, revealing that the present meaning of illness is comprehensive and universal, in two: first, narrating the intent and listing the sections; second, from "Three reasons..." onward, explaining directly according to the sections. Jingxi says: Regarding "three reasons," etc., relying on the ancient explanation, the present also establishes three and also calls them "reasons," yet the meaning is slightly different. They merely arise from the illness; it is not that an entire chapter forms the initial reason. But because there are three places arising from the illness, they are called "three reasons": first, the worldly assembly; second, the śrāvakas; third, the bodhisattvas. Regarding the "six sources," the intention is to clarify that the manifestation of illness is the source of the six chapters; the opening passage of "Inquiring After the Illness" does not have [this]. It is the origin and beginning of the taming, consoling, and instructing in this chapter, and together with the five chapters below, they form the six sources.
