三、明二解脫力不同，二：初、敘意分科。「理然不同」者，道理自然不同也。二、隨文釋義，二，初、問。荊溪云：或約三藏至通教者，二教俱有三乘故也。言「多約通教」者，以聲聞人於方等中間聞通，執三乘之法，故以為問。

Third, explaining that the power of the two liberations is not the same, which has two parts: first, recounting the purport and dividing the sections. "By principle, they are naturally not the same" means that according to reason, they are spontaneously different. Second, following the text to explain the meaning, which has two parts: first, the question. Jingxi says: "Either in terms of the Tripiṭaka up to the shared teachings..." because both teachings possess the three vehicles. Stating "mostly in terms of the shared teaching" is because the śrāvakas, having heard the shared [teaching] during the vaipulya period, clung to the teachings of the three vehicles, and thus raised the question on that basis.
