Fourth, explaining that unprecedented events take place in the room, which has two parts: first, dividing the sections; second, following the text to explain them, which has three parts: first, marking the headings; second, discerning the characteristics, which has two parts: first, following the text to explain directly, in eight parts: first, light constantly illuminates; second, those who enter are free from defilement. Jingxi says: "Such as within and beyond the realms, if one commits grave offenses..." and so forth: grave offenses can distantly obstruct the principle within and beyond the realms. Third, ordinary beings and noble ones come to assemble. Jingxi says: the Mahāparinirvāṇa Sūtra says that because the coming to assemble never ceases, the meaning seems progressively deeper. Fourth, the six perfections are constantly expounded. "The four kinds of non-retrogression" means that the four teachings each possess the three kinds of non-retrogression of position, practice, and mindfulness. Regarding "if mindfulness..." downward: in terms of the distinctive [teaching], non-retrogression of mindfulness is precisely the partial realization of the true [nature] in the perfect [teaching]. Fifth, strings and songs expound the Dharma. Sixth, the four treasuries provide universal relief. "They are what is expressed by the four teachings": in terms of principle, this is the treasury; though what the four teachings express differs, they are unified in a single thought. Regarding "it is also contemplating the twelve links of dependent origination..." and so forth: in terms of practice, this is the treasury. Seventh, according with one's mindfulness, Buddhas arrive. Eighth, all pure lands appear. When the Mahāparinirvāṇa Sūtra says "neither increasing nor decreasing," it refers to the seawater having neither increase nor decrease.
