Second, from "this unprecedented..." downward, concluding the differences to reveal the identity. Third, concluding reproach. Fourth, explaining that the inconceivable Dharma gate is sovereign in transformation, which has two parts: first, recounting the purport and dividing the sections. Avaivartika is translated here as "non-retrogression." Regarding "the meaning of turning and not turning": this is precisely retrogression and non-retrogression. Regarding "the Buddha said..." downward: Jingxi says that the intention of the Buddha's answer is that only when the former two teachings do not turn can they be called non-retrogression. Because the latter two teachings attain the principle, they take their name from the principle. The nature of principle fundamentally has neither turning nor not turning. "Turning" has the sense of retrogression; hence it does not retrogress, which is why it is said they are all called vaivartika.
