Third, from "only" downward, the doctrine accords with Vasubandhu to forestall slander by others. Regarding "the mutual illumination and reference with the Di[chi] and She[lun]," the *Bodhisattvabhūmi-śāstra* was composed by Maitreya and was also upheld by Vasubandhu. Now, how could our school, in interpreting the sūtras, merely uphold and inherit the contemplation methods of Nāgārjuna? When it comes to doctrinal divisions and technical terms, it relies entirely on the *Mahāprajñāpāramitopadeśa* and the *Mūlamadhyamakakārikā*; if there are omissions in Dharma-characteristics, it then draws on other schools for supplementation. This is the case in all texts, not only here. Since they are not primary usages, it is called "mutual illumination and reference." From "some might say..." downward, since it relies on Vasubandhu, others will ultimately have no ground for slander.
