Section two: The mutable and immutable establishment of titles. The sūtras of the Buddhas of the three periods have two kinds of title establishment: first, names that do not change; second, differing according to the eras of the Buddhas. For example, in the past, twenty thousand Candrasūryapradīpa Buddhas preached the Mahāyāna sūtra named the Wonderful Dharma Lotus Flower Sūtra, and in the present, Śākyamuni shares this same name. In this principle, the name does not change. Second, the establishment of titles differs according to the Buddha's appearing in the world, just as within the twelve divisions of scriptures, the Itivṛttaka Sūtra was named Amṛtadundubhi when Krakucchanda Buddha appeared in the world, Dharmādarśa in the time of Kanakamuni Buddha, Vibhaṅga-śūnyatā in the time of Kāśyapa Buddha, and Dhātu Sūtra when Śākyamuni arose in the world. This is because adapting to conditions is not uniform, so it varies according to the time. (Since the common title changes, the specific title should also be like this, by mutual analogy.)
