6.34

問：何故請座，心念即來；今時請食，令化使往？答：食有隨來之者，近客故使化人。座無隨座之賓，請座不須使往。又神通化用不一權宜，何必濟命化人，未必並須無信。

Question: Why is it that when requesting seats, they arrived by a mere thought; but now when requesting food, an emanated emissary is sent to go? Answer: Food has those who come along with it, and out of closeness to the guests an emanated person was sent. For seats there were no guests accompanying the seats, so requesting seats did not require sending an emissary. Furthermore, supernormal emanations vary as expedient means require; why must an emanated person provide for life, and why must they all lack faith?
