Commentary: Below are seven clauses, not the same in cultivating the bodhipakṣa-dharmas. These are the first three clauses. When the two vehicles cultivate smṛtyupasthāna, they seek detachment from body, feeling, mind, and dharmas; when the bodhisattva cultivates smṛtyupasthāna, they do not seek the four detachments. Detachment means severing afflictions. When the two vehicles give rise to samyakprahāṇa, they diligently sever the two unwholesome things and diligently cultivate the two wholesome things, and thus see the wholesome and unwholesome; when the bodhisattva without discrimination gives rise to the four samyakprahāṇas, they do not see the wholesome and unwholesome. When the two vehicles give rise to the four ṛddhipādas, they cannot spontaneously manifest transformations with mastery; when the bodhisattva gives rise to the ṛddhipādas, they can spontaneously manifest transformations, because their preparatory application is great.
