初、觀境。四諦法相前果後因，今從修觀始因終果，故世出世集道居前、苦滅在後。初心觀境欲易研尋，宜從近事，故順世俗甲乙、五行、四季等名，令四方義成，使四諦可識，務在立觀，不拘名教。

First, the realm of contemplation. In the characteristics of the four truths, effect comes first and cause comes after; now, in terms of cultivating contemplation, one begins with cause and ends with effect, so worldly and transworldly accumulation and path are placed first, while suffering and cessation are placed after. For the realm of contemplation of the initial mind to be easy to investigate, it is suitable to follow familiar matters; thus it accords with worldly names like jia-yi, the five elements, and the four seasons, so that the meaning of the four directions is established and the four truths can be recognized, the effort lying in establishing contemplation without being constrained by nominal teachings.
