Second, from 'Bestowing...' onward, explaining separately, in four [parts]: First, bestowing the food of humans and devas; second, from 'Having maintained' onward, bestowing the food of the Tripiṭaka [teaching]; third, from 'Having entered' onward, bestowing the food of the shared and distinct [teachings]; fourth, from 'Even if hungry' onward, bestowing the food of the perfect teaching. Because it lacks the Dharma-food of the Great Vehicle, it is called a 'hungry country'. The sudden and perfect Dharma is like royal delicacies, not the food of the common multitude. 'Delicacy' (shan) means good (shan), referring to fine food. From 'Afflictions' onward, contemplating delusions as identical to wisdom is like firewood feeding a fire. Wisdom being the cause and delusion the condition, they can consummate the food of the four virtues, allowing disciples of all forty-one stages to share in its sweet savor.
