二、「若乾」下，通教。教詮體空，異前析滅，空含中道，是大乘門，利根方見，屬後二教。今就二乘及鈍菩薩論懺悔也。支佛不達文字者，不能說法化他也。然支佛有部行、麟喻之別。部行者，或能說法；今約麟喻為言也。獨悟孤行，喻麟頭之一角，故名麟喻。

Second, from "if dry" downward, [treating] the shared teaching. This teaching explains embodiment of emptiness, different from the previous destruction through analysis; emptiness contains the Middle Way, which is the gateway of the Great Vehicle, seen only by those of sharp faculties, belonging to the latter two teachings. Here, repentance is discussed with respect to the two vehicles and dull bodhisattvas. Pratyekabuddhas who do not master written words cannot teach the Dharma to convert others. However, pratyekabuddhas have the distinction of congregation-goers and rhinoceros-like hermits. Congregation-goers may be able to teach the Dharma; what is said here concerns the rhinoceros-like hermits. Awakening alone and walking in solitude, like the single horn on the head of a rhinoceros, they are therefore named rhinoceros-like hermits.
